Pieperrace Volendam
On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April 2019, the 35st Pieperrace will take place on the Markermeer . Organized by the Pieperrace Foundation, it can be followed from the shores around hospitable Volendam. This yearly event marks the beginning of the sailing season. Many historical ships take part every year, including klippers, tjalk barges, aaks, botters and kwaks. The Catharina van Mijdrecht often takes part too, providing we can get a crew together.
The Pieperrace (pieper = spud) is held in commemoration of the risky potato transports that took place on the IJsselmeer during World War II, when Volendammer fishermen brought potatoes from Friesland to supply the hospitals in Amsterdam (Wikipedia).

Friday
13:00 We depart from Monnickendam for a practice round.
17:00 Arrival in Volendam, pick up the starting number.
19:00 Hot meal on board.
20:00 Introduction round while enjoying a drink and a snack.
Saturday
08:30 breakfast buffet.
09:30 Palaver with the competition organization in “Het Gat van Nederland”.
10:00 Sail out and prepare the ship for competition.
11:00 Start of the competition.
12:30 lunch buffet en route.
16:00 Finish of day 1, the “victory” is celebrated with a drink.
17:00 Arrival at the port of Volendam.
19:00 Hot meal on board.
20:00 Enjoying a drink and a snack, the victory of the next day is already being celebrated.
Sunday
08:30 breakfast buffet.
09:30 Palaver with the competition organization in “Het Gat van Nederland”.
10:00 Sail out and prepare the ship for competition.
11:00 Start of the competition.
12:30 lunch buffet en route.
15:00 Finish of day 2, the “victory” is again celebrated with a drink.
16:00 We briefly moor in Volendam.
17:30 Arrival at the port of Monnickendam.
For the complete program you only pay € 198.50 per person incl. Food and drinks.
You can also come aboard in Volendam on Friday evening.
Do you have less time; you can also participate for a day for € 52.50 per person incl. lunch and drinks.
